Sanguisorba officinalis ‘Plum Pudding'
Greater Burnet Rosaceae
NEW
A brand-new selection from Edulis, and a fine addition to the range of mid-height Sanguisorba. ‘Plum Pudding’ produces masses of globular, dark plummy-red to almost blackish-purple flowerheads, held on narrow, branching stems above the foliage. The flowers begin in July and continue into August, retaining their rich colour well into September. Particularly valuable for its self-supporting habit, it needs no staking and makes an excellent mid-border plant.
Introduction: A new selection from Edulis Nursery, chosen for its combination of flower colour, long flowering period, moderate stature and excellent self-supporting habit. It reaches approximately 80cm–1.2m, making it particularly useful where a substantial Sanguisorba is wanted without the height and floppiness of some taller forms.
Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, moisture-retentive soil that does not become excessively dry. Excellent in naturalistic planting, mixed herbaceous borders and amongst grasses, where the dark flowerheads provide a strong contrast with lighter foliage and flowers. The flowers are also attractive to pollinating insects.
