Greater Burnet Rosaceae

A particularly handsome seedling of Sanguisorba canadensis, forming a strong, upright clump of attractive green foliage and producing distinctive plummy-pink, ruffled bottlebrush flowerheads on tall, sturdy stems. The flowers are held well above the foliage, providing excellent vertical interest and movement in the herbaceous border and naturalistic planting. Flowering in midsummer, it is a particularly useful selection for adding height and texture while remaining elegant and airy.

Introduction: ‘Pink Ruffles’ was selected at Edulis Nursery as a seedling of Sanguisorba canadensis, retained for its unusual pink, ruffled flowerheads and strong garden performance.

Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. It performs best where the soil remains reliably moist during summer and combines particularly well with ornamental grasses and other late-season perennials. The flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.

Flowering: July–September
Hardiness: H7, below –20°C
Height: 1.5–1.8m
Spread: 60–90cm
