Phlox paniculata 'Wendy House'
Garden Phlox Polemoniaceae
A compact Dutch garden phlox with an unusually rich colour, Phlox paniculata ‘Wendy House’ produces dense heads of deep purplish-red to violet flowers above sturdy, dark green foliage. At barely half the height of many traditional garden phlox, it is particularly useful where the larger cultivars threaten to become a little too enthusiastic about occupying the border. The flowers are fragrant, long-lasting and excellent for cutting, while butterflies and other pollinators readily visit them. It also has a reputation for good mildew resistance—welcome news for a plant that prefers fertile, moisture-retentive soil rather than a Mediterranean regime.
Breeder & introduction: ‘Wendy House’ was bred in the Netherlands by Jan Verschoor and introduced in 2006. It was selected for its compact, upright habit, intense purple colouring and healthy foliage.
