One of the prettier members of a genus better known for its darker reputation, Oenanthe pimpinelloides combines delicate white umbels with an unexpected edible history. A Mediterranean member of the carrot family, it produces finely divided foliage and airy heads of small white flowers, making a surprisingly elegant addition to a sunny, well-drained border. Its roots have been eaten traditionally in parts of southern Europe, although this is emphatically not a plant for casual culinary experimentation: Oenanthe contains dangerously poisonous species, so correct identification is essential. A beautiful umbellifer with a culinary footnote — and one best read before being tasted. Height 40–80cm; spread 30–45cm.

The is often wrongly sold as Bunium bulbocastaneum (Earth Chestnut) that produces a single tuber.
