A plant that sounds as though it ought to be on a pharmaceutical label, but is actually rather a charming garden perennial. Jaborosa integrifolia is a fascinating member of the nightshade family from South America, forming a low clump of rounded, fresh-green leaves followed by unusual, nodding greenish-yellow flowers on slender stems. The flowers are followed by smooth, fleshy berries that add further interest as the season progresses. A choice plant for the collector who enjoys something a little outside the usual run of garden fare. Give it sun or light shade and a well-drained soil, and it will reward you with a succession of curious flowers and fruits. Botanically intriguing, slightly eccentric and definitely not your average border perennial.
