Galanthus 'Wessex Tear'
A distinctive Edulis selection with a wonderfully teardrop-shaped flower, ‘Wessex Tear’ combines neatly formed white outer segments with strongly contrasting green markings on the inner segments. The flowers hang elegantly from the stems, while the fresh green foliage forms a tidy clump beneath. It has the sort of character that makes you stop at ground level—which, with snowdrops, is exactly where the interesting things happen.
Origin: Selected and introduced by Edulis Nursery; the ‘Wessex’ prefix denotes snowdrops bred or selected here.
In the garden: A good choice for the collector’s snowdrop border or naturalistic planting, where its distinctive flower shape can be appreciated close up. Like most snowdrops, it performs best in moisture-retentive, humus-rich soil with good drainage and partial shade.
