Galanthus ‘Wessex Head’

A very tall, robust Galanthus × valentinei selected by Paul Barney from a self-seeding population. The original plant immediately distinguished itself by standing “head and shoulders above the rest”, hence the name ‘Wessex Head’. It is an imposing snowdrop, producing exceptionally strong growth and often two scapes from a single bulb, giving a particularly substantial display. The flowers are carried high above the foliage, making this an excellent cultivar where a bold, architectural snowdrop is wanted. It is one of the Wessex selections from Edulis Nursery, and belongs to the nursery’s developing group of selected snowdrops and hybrids. 

Cultivation: Grow in humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in light deciduous shade or open woodland. Particularly good planted in groups where its exceptional height and vigour can be appreciated. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
