Galanthus nivalis ‘Watlington Smudge’
A large-flowered Galanthus nivalis with strongly marked outer segments, the green pigmentation forming an attractive, irregular smudged wash rather than a sharply defined marking. Selected by Paul Barney in 2014, the name recalls its Watlington provenance and the rather painterly character of the flowers. A robust and characterful nivalis, with considerably more presence than its modest species name might suggest.
