A superb and distinctive snowdrop with well-formed, rounded flowers and strongly marked inner segments. ‘Trumps’ has broad, pure-white outer segments surrounding inner segments boldly marked with rich green, producing an unusually crisp and substantial flower. It is a vigorous and reliable cultivar, and its combination of strong markings, good form and garden performance has earned it an RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

Origin: Found by Matt Bishop in North Green’s garden in 1999 and subsequently named ‘Trumps’. It is considered to be a cross between Galanthus plicatus, in its poculiform form, and G. elwesii, combining the strong flower form of the former with the larger stature and vigour associated with the latter.

In the garden: An excellent snowdrop for naturalising beneath deciduous trees and shrubs, woodland edges and winter borders. Allow it to remain undisturbed so that established clumps can gradually increase. Best grown in humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil.
