Galanthus plicatus ‘Wantage Green’
A particularly handsome green-marked form of Galanthus plicatus, ‘Wantage Green’ has the broad, strongly pleated foliage characteristic of the species, beneath flowers with crisp white outer segments and prominent green markings on the inner segments. The combination of substantial flowers and glaucous, folded foliage gives it the unmistakable character of G. plicatus—a snowdrop with rather more architectural presence than the common snowdrop.
Origin: A selected form of Galanthus plicatus associated with the Wantage area of Oxfordshire, and now maintained in specialist collections.
In the garden: A good, vigorous woodland snowdrop that should bulk up well when planted in moisture-retentive, humus-rich soil. The broad pleated foliage remains attractive after flowering and makes the plant particularly easy to recognise in a mixed snowdrop collection.
