Galanthus ‘Philippe Andre Meyer’

A superb Trym-type snowdrop, ‘Philippe André Meyer’ is a delicate but highly distinctive inverse-poculiform in which the outer segments are unusually broad and well splayed, rather like an opened fan. A green stripe runs prominently down the length of each outer segment, while the inner segments are almost entirely green, producing a wonderfully graphic flower. It is not especially tall, but increases readily and makes an excellent collector’s plant. 

Origin: Found by Mark Brown and selected as one of his finest seedlings from Galanthus ‘Trym’. It was named for a generous former employer in France, Philippe André Meyer. Mark Brown himself described it as a Trym seedling that had been grown on for several years before being considered worthy of a name. 

In the garden: A vigorous, relatively compact snowdrop that deserves to be planted where the unusual flower shape can be examined closely. Like other snowdrops, it prefers humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.
