Galanthus elwesii var. monostictus. ‘Penelope Ann’

A fine Ray Cobb selection, named for Ann Borrill, ‘Penelope Ann’ is a distinguished form of Galanthus elwesii var. monostictus. It produces large, well-proportioned flowers above broad, glaucous foliage, the inner segments carrying a characteristic single green apical mark. The flowers are particularly attractive for their clean white ground and strong, symmetrical markings. A reliable and vigorous snowdrop, it makes an excellent garden subject and is particularly effective planted in generous groups beneath deciduous trees and shrubs. A useful mid-season elwesii, flowering when its substantial foliage provides an attractive foil for the flowers.

Cultivation: Grow in humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in light or dappled shade. Plant ‘in the green’ or divide established clumps after flowering. Allow foliage to die back naturally.
