Galanthus nivalis ‘Squidly’

A wonderfully characterful snowdrop, Galanthus nivalis ‘Squidly’ is distinguished by its unusually long, claw-like outer segments, which curve and taper beneath the flower to give the bloom a distinctly squid-like appearance. The flowers have an almost animated quality, with the elongated outer segments creating a loose, tentacular silhouette quite unlike the neat, rounded flowers of many G. nivalis cultivars. A fun and highly recognisable snowdrop for the collector.

Origin: Originally from Decora Nursery in Croatia, where this distinctive form was selected and introduced into cultivation. The name ‘Squidly’ is a playful reference to the long, clawed outer segments, which resemble the tentacles of a squid.

In the garden: A choice collector’s snowdrop that is particularly rewarding when planted where its unusual flowers can be viewed at close quarters. Grow in humus-rich, moisture-retentive soil with good drainage and allow it to remain undisturbed so that it can gradually form a good clump.
