Galanthus nivalis 'Doncaster's Double Charmer'

A charming double-flowered form of Galanthus nivalis, found in the garden of Amy Doncaster at Chandler’s Ford, Hampshire, and named in her honour. It produces neatly formed, nodding double flowers, with the inner segments arranged particularly regularly and symmetrically. The three outer segments are unusually attractive, carrying clear green markings running down their centres, sometimes extending towards the tips. 

A comparatively late nivalis double, ‘Doncaster’s Double Charmer’ is an excellent garden snowdrop as well as a collector’s plant. The combination of a regular double centre and clearly marked outer segments gives it a distinctive appearance, and it is sufficiently well established to be recognised by the RHS as an accepted cultivar. 

Cultivation: Grow in humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in partial shade or beneath deciduous trees. Avoid summer drought. Excellent for naturalising in woodland-style planting; allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
