Galanthus ‘Moortown Mighty’

A truly mighty snowdrop, selected from the snowdrop-rich garden of David Bromley at Moortown, Shropshire, and discovered by Mark Brown in 2007. A Galanthus plicatus hybrid, it combines the broad, strongly pleated blue-green foliage of its plicatus ancestry with exceptionally large, boldly proportioned flowers. The thickly textured outer segments are beautifully rounded and curve outward as the flowers open widely, revealing inner segments boldly stained with green. Strong-growing and particularly impressive in a mature clump, it is an early-flowering cultivar and one of the more substantial modern hybrids. A superb choice for anyone who likes their snowdrops large, architectural and impossible to overlook. 

Cultivation: Moist but well-drained, humus-rich soil in partial shade; excellent beneath deciduous trees or shrubs and particularly effective planted in groups where its large flowers can be appreciated at close quarters.
