Galanthus elwesii ‘Mary Biddulph’

A handsome early Galanthus elwesii with substantial, neatly formed flowers and a long, distinctive green marking on the inner segments. The original bulb was given to Mary Biddulph by the celebrated snowdrop enthusiast Oliver Wyatt, and was subsequently grown at her garden at Rodmarton Manor, Gloucestershire. It was originally circulated under the name ‘Oliver Wyatt’, before Daphne Chappell suggested renaming it ‘Mary Biddulph’. First offered by Cinderdine Cottage Snowdrops in 2000, the new name appropriately recognises Mary Biddulph’s contribution to the Gloucestershire snowdrop tradition. A particularly interesting piece of Galanthus history, linking two generations of influential British snowdrop enthusiasts.
