Galanthus ‘Lucy’

A particularly handsome Trym-type snowdrop, ‘Lucy’ produces well-shaped flowers with two striking green splashes on each outer segment, one broad mark towards the tip and a narrower one nearer the ovary. The inner segments carry bold green markings too, giving the flower an unusually strong pattern without losing the clean white ground. It is also a vigorous clumper, forming impressive flowering tuffs once established. 

Origin: A seedling from the garden of Richard Bashford and Valerie Bexley at Woodchippings, one of the great sources of modern Trym-type snowdrops. It was introduced from their garden and is now widely recognised as one of the notable descendants of Galanthus ‘Trym’. 

In the garden: Vigorous and floriferous, ‘Lucy’ is particularly good for building a substantial clump beneath deciduous trees or shrubs. Its strongly marked outer segments make it an excellent close-up snowdrop for collectors.
