Galanthus ‘John Nash’

A large, distinctive Galanthus elwesii cultivar, ‘John Nash’ was selected by the renowned snowdrop grower Margaret Owen at Attingham Park Estate, Cronkhill, Shropshire. It was named for the celebrated English architect John Nash (1752–1835), who designed Cronkhill, one of Britain’s earliest villas in the Italianate style. The cultivar is particularly notable for its very broad, upright, grey-green foliage and large flowers. The inner segments carry a variable green inverted-V to heart-shaped marking, often accompanied by two rounded basal marks. A handsome, substantial snowdrop, flowering in the middle of the snowdrop season. 

Cultivation: Grow in humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil, preferably in light deciduous shade. It is excellent for naturalising beneath trees and shrubs and, like most snowdrops, establishes best when planted ‘in the green’. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
