Galanthus nivalis ‘Jade’

A particularly attractive selection of Galanthus nivalis found amongst a swarm of naturalised snowdrops in Gloucestershire and subsequently selected by Alan Street of Avon Bulbs. Its great attraction is the glowing, jade-green wash that runs along the outer segments, strongest as a stripe down the midline, giving the otherwise white flower a distinctly green cast. The colour can vary with conditions and age, but good bulbs can be remarkably well marked. The scape is also characteristically curved, sometimes arching almost back upon itself so that the flower hangs in a particularly graceful manner. Introduced through Avon Bulbs and listed by them by 2018, ‘Jade’ has become a well-established collectors’ snowdrop. A name that describes the colour rather more honestly than most snowdrop names manage!
