A notably early member of the Hiemalis Group of Galanthus elwesii, found by the late Phil Cornish in the garden of the late Howard Wheeler on Longford Lane, Longlevens, Gloucester, in 1998. Producing slender, elegant flowers from November into December, it is particularly valuable for extending the snowdrop season into the darker months. The Hiemalis Group comprises exceptionally early-flowering forms of G. elwesii, and ‘Howard Wheeler’ is a fine example. Its name commemorates Howard Wheeler and the Gloucestershire garden in which Phil Cornish discovered it. A charming piece of local snowdrop history and a particularly useful early elwesii.
