Galanthus plicatus ‘Gold Edge’

This is Galanthus plicatus ‘Gold Edge’, one of the comparatively few snowdrops grown as much for its foliage as for its flower. The broad, pleated leaves develop a conspicuous golden-yellow margin, contrasting beautifully with the green centre; the flowers themselves are typical plicatus, with green-marked inner segments. It was found by Phil Cornish in 1992 in the former garden of the great snowdrop grower Bertram Anderson. The cultivar has also been recorded under the names ‘Goldedge’ and ‘Gilt Edge’. The combination of handsome foliage and good flowers makes it especially effective in a collection where the leaves can be appreciated after flowering.
