Galanthus ‘G75’

A relatively uncommon Greatorex Double, ‘G75’ was selected in the 1970s by Fred Buglass, then a leading member of the RHS, from the garden of the late Heyrick Greatorex in Norwich. Buglass recovered three particularly good unnamed doubles from the old Greatorex garden, assigning them the collection numbers G71, G75 and G77. 

‘G75’ is considered one of the better and less frequently encountered Greatorex hybrids. It produces plump, rounded double flowers, with broadly spreading outer segments and a large, horseshoe-shaped green marking on the inner segments. The flowers are carried on relatively short stems, giving the plant a pleasingly compact appearance. It remains an interesting piece of Greatorex history, preserving a selection from the original garden rather than being a subsequently bred cultivar. 

Cultivation: Grow in humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in light deciduous shade. Excellent beneath trees and shrubs or naturalised in woodland planting. Allow foliage to mature and die back naturally after flowering.
