A charming balloon-flowered hybrid selected by Paul Barney in Pangbourne in 2010, ‘Faint Heart’ is distinguished by its unusually inflated, rounded flowers, with attractively textured outer segments and a delicate faint heart-shaped marking on the inner segments. The subtle marking gives the cultivar its name and makes it particularly appealing on close inspection. It was one of the snowdrops selected from the seedlings and hybrids growing in Paul Barney’s garden, where variation between plants provided opportunities for selecting distinctive forms.

A good example of the modern Edulis approach to snowdrop selection: not necessarily the strongest or most dramatic plant, but one possessing a distinctive combination of flower shape, marking and character.
