Galanthus ‘Ermine House’
A neat and unusually well-formed double snowdrop, with proportionally long, elegant outer segments surrounding a compact flower. The inner segments are marked with a distinctive waisted green marking, the colour separated into a stronger apical area and a paler basal portion. Its upright habit and glaucous foliage add to the tidy appearance.
‘Ermine House’ was found and named by Hector Harrison of Appleby, South Humberside. The name is a local reference: Ermine recalls the ancient Ermine Roman Road, which runs close to Harrison’s home.
The cultivar has subsequently been described as a regular double, and its combination of long outer segments and neatly arranged inner marking makes it readily recognisable. Earlier nursery descriptions record flowering at around 24 cm, with upright scapes and glaucous, upright leaves.
