Galanthus 'Dick's Early Yellow'
One of the earliest and most reliable yellow snowdrops, ‘Dick’s Early Yellow’ produces neat white flowers with a warm yellow ovary and yellow markings on the inner segments, sometimes showing a subtle greenish flush as the flowers mature. The colour can deepen with age and good light, making it particularly attractive in the depths of winter. It is also notably vigorous—yellow snowdrops are not always famous for their enthusiasm, so this one deserves extra credit.
Origin: Selected by the well-known snowdrop grower Dick Bathe, and named for him. It is regarded as an early-flowering yellow form and is now established in specialist collections, including the Edulis collection.
In the garden: A vigorous, early-flowering collector’s snowdrop that makes a good clump once established. Best planted where the yellow markings can be viewed close-up, in moisture-retentive, humus-rich soil beneath deciduous trees or shrubs. It flowers particularly early, generally January–February.
