Galanthus ‘David Quinton'

A handsome deliberate hybrid cross, producing a large-flowered poculiform of considerable elegance. The flowers are notably large and well proportioned, with a slender ovary and the pleasing symmetry characteristic of the poculiform form. Flowering in the heart of winter, it makes an excellent presence from January into February.

The cross was made between ‘E. A. Bowles’ × Galanthus nivalis ‘Poculiformis’, with the resulting seedling selected by Joe Sharman. The combination has produced a snowdrop with both substance and refinement: large flowers give it presence, while the slender ovary and poculiform character provide the more technical interest beloved of galanthophiles.

A particularly worthwhile snowdrop for the collector, but with enough flower and stature to make an excellent garden plant. Grow in humus-rich, moisture-retentive soil that does not become waterlogged, preferably in light deciduous shade. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
