Galanthus ‘Chameleon’

A particularly interesting colour-changing snowdrop selected by Richard Bashford in his Northamptonshire garden. ‘Chameleon’ is a Galanthus × valentinei seedling whose flowers undergo a remarkable transformation as they mature: the markings can initially appear green, but develop into a striking bright golden-yellow. The yellow extends onto the tips of the outer segments, giving the flowers an unusual and changeable appearance. 

The name ‘Chameleon’ is particularly apt for a snowdrop whose colouring changes noticeably during flowering. It is now established in specialist collections and is regarded as one of the more distinctive modern yellow-flowering hybrids. 

Cultivation: Grow in humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in partial shade or beneath deciduous trees. Good winter light encourages the strongest yellow colouring. Allow foliage to mature and die back naturally after flowering.
