Galanthus ‘Brenda Troyle’

A superb early-flowering, strongly scented snowdrop, ‘Brenda Troyle’ produces large, rounded flowers with broad, pear-shaped outer segments and a particularly handsome inverted V-shaped green mark on each inner segment. Its outstanding feature is the powerful honey fragrance, especially noticeable on mild, sunny days. The grey-green foliage complements the flowers beautifully, making this one well worth getting down on your knees for.

Origin: An Irish snowdrop of uncertain provenance, traditionally associated with Kilmacurragh in County Wicklow. The suggestion that a woman named Brenda Troyle worked at Kilmacurragh is widely repeated, but the connection has never been conclusively established.

In the garden: A vigorous, reliable clumper with good-sized flowers, strong honey scent and an early flowering period. Excellent beneath deciduous trees or shrubs in moisture-retentive, humus-rich soil.
