Galanthus ‘Blowsy'

A truly remarkable large-flowered hybrid from the Edulis stable, and a snowdrop that certainly lives up to its rather blowsy name. The flowers have impressive substance and presence, making it one of those plants that catches the eye even from several paces away.

A green-tipped hybrid selection, ‘Blowsy’ arose from a batch of seedlings raised from Glen Chantry GC2. Amongst this progeny it stood out sufficiently to be selected at Edulis in 2018, its combination of exceptional flower size and green-tipped character marking it as something rather special.

The parentage is best recorded as seedling progeny of Glen Chantry GC2, rather than attributing the characteristics directly to the original clone: seedlings are, after all, entitled to surprise us. ‘Blowsy’ is a good example of the rewards of growing on a batch of seedlings and keeping an eye open for the exceptional individual hiding amongst the merely good.

Grow in humus-rich, moisture-retentive soil with good drainage, preferably beneath deciduous trees or shrubs where the plants receive winter and early-spring light.
