Galanthus ‘Blewbury’

A single snowdrop from Blewbury churchyard, Oxfordshire, ‘Blewbury’ is a fine example of the way a familiar population can produce plants sufficiently distinctive to merit a name. Unlike the celebrated double ‘Blewbury Tart’, this is a single-flowered form, with the classic three white outer and three smaller inner segments of the single snowdrop. Its provenance gives it particular interest to collectors, linking it directly to one of Britain’s most celebrated snowdrop localities.

Origin: Found as a single in Blewbury churchyard, Oxfordshire. Avon Bulbs has maintained it separately from ‘Blewbury Tart’, which was also found in the churchyard but is the famous sterile, applanate double. 

In the garden: A choice plant for the collector or anyone interested in the historic forms of Galanthus nivalis. Best grown in moisture-retentive, humus-rich soil in sun or partial shade, and left undisturbed to build a clump.
