Galanthus ‘Atkinsii of Finnis'

A particularly handsome form of the classic snowdrop ‘Atkinsii’, ‘Atkinsii of Finnis’ was selected from the garden of the celebrated plantswoman and galanthophile Valerie Finnis (1924–2006) at Boughton House, Northamptonshire. It is regarded as a strong variation of ‘Atkinsii’, retaining its characteristic long, pear-shaped outer segments, upright blue-green foliage and prominent green inverted-V marking on the inner segments. 

The flowers are elegant and well proportioned, with the outer segments narrowing towards a slightly pointed apex. The plant has the robust constitution expected of ‘Atkinsii’ and makes an excellent clump when established. ‘Atkinsii of Finnis’ is maintained as a distinct cultivar from the original ‘Atkinsii’, preserving the form grown in Valerie Finnis’s garden. 

Cultivation: Grow in humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in partial shade. Avoid summer drought. Excellent beneath deciduous trees and shrubs and particularly effective when allowed to naturalise in generous groups.
