This is a long-flowering, clump-forming perennial with attractive dark-green, toothed foliage and elegant, slender flower stems carrying relatively large, bright violet-blue daisies with conspicuous yellow centres. Unlike some of the more exuberant Michaelmas daisies, it has a distinctly graceful habit and is particularly useful where a little late-season colour is required without the plant taking over the border.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIts new name, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eCordiofontis peduncularis\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, reflects its separation from the large and rather unwieldy genus \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAster\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. The genus \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCordiofontis\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e was established by Guy L. Nesom in 2020, with \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eC. peduncularis\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cem\u003e \u003c\/em\u003eas one of its constituent species. The original \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAster peduncularis\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e was described from a Wallich collection made in \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eUttarakhand, India\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, and the species is native from \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003enortheastern Pakistan through Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh to Uttarakhand and Nepal\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, occurring in the western Himalayas. Interestingly, it is tolerant of drier conditions once established and can even perform in \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003edry shade\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, although flowering will generally be better with some light and moisture.
