Euphorbia ceratocarpa 'Fromefield Gold'

 Horned Spurge Euphorbiaceae

A particularly good improvement on the already handsome Euphorbia ceratocarpa, ‘Fromefield Gold’ forms an upright, evergreen sub-shrub with narrow grey-green leaves and a conspicuous pale midrib, but its real party trick is the extraordinary display of large, open panicles of pale yellow flowers from early spring. Unlike the type, ‘Fromefield Gold’ is a sterile selection, so the flowers remain decorative for much longer rather than being quickly replaced by seed production.

It is also somewhat more compact and upright than the species, typically reaching around 1–1.2m, while retaining the toughness and drought tolerance that make E. ceratocarpa such a useful Mediterranean plant for the British garden. The combination of long-lasting yellow flowering and grey-green foliage makes it particularly effective in a sunny, well-drained border.
