Cystopteris moupinense

 Moupin Bladder Fern Cystopteridaceae

A delicate-looking little fern with rather more tolerance than its fragile appearance suggests, Cystopteris moupinensis forms compact clumps of triangular, finely divided, yellow-green fronds from slender creeping rhizomes. Its native range extends from Nepal and the eastern Himalaya through China to Japan and Taiwan, where it is found in cool, damp woodland, particularly on moist rocks and shaded ground.

Give it partial to full shade and soil that never dries out, with plenty of humus; it is surprisingly accommodating of acid, neutral or alkaline soils. A lovely choice for shady rock gardens, woodland edges or a fernery.
