Chloranthus oldhamii BSWJ 2019

Chloranthus Chloranthaceae

A wonderfully useful shade plant with an air of something considerably more exotic, Chloranthus oldhamii BSWJ 2019 is a rhizomatous perennial collected by Bleddyn and Sue Wynn-Jones in 1993 at Datung Dahli, Taroko, eastern Taiwan.  It forms handsome, erect clumps of sharply serrated, glossy leaves, topped in spring and summer by branching sprays of arching spikes bearing small, intensely fragrant white flowers. Grow in humus-rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in partial to full shade, where it gradually forms an elegant colony. An excellent plant for the woodland garden—and one that deserves to be planted where the scent can be enjoyed
