Cardamine heptaphylla 'Guincho Form'
Seven-leaved Toothwort Brassicaceae
An elegant woodland perennial, Cardamine heptaphylla (Seven-leaved Toothwort) forms handsome, divided foliage and airy clusters of four-petalled white to pale lilac flowers in spring. Native to mountainous regions of western and central Europe, particularly the Alps and Pyrenees, it favours cool, humus-rich soils in deciduous woodland and shaded, often calcareous sites. The young leaves and shoots are edible raw or cooked, with the characteristic peppery, mustard-like flavour of the genus, although it is chiefly valued as a wild vegetable rather than a cultivated food crop. A refined choice for naturalistic woodland planting, particularly beneath deciduous trees.
