Briza media ‘Golden Bee’
Quaking Grass Poaceae
A rather lovely refinement of our native Quaking Grass, selected by Joe Sharman, with a more compact habit and flowerheads that mature from green to a distinctive golden yellow. The delicate, nodding ‘lockets’ dance about on wiry stems in the slightest breeze, making this an excellent grass for naturalistic planting, meadow-style borders and the front of a sunny herbaceous border. Particularly effective planted in groups, where the golden flowerheads create a lovely haze amongst perennials. The flowers are also excellent for cutting and drying. Originally selected in Britain from our native Briza media, so this is very much a home-grown improvement rather than an exotic import.
