Bidens aurea 'Hannay's Lemon Drop'

A particularly good form of Arizona beggarticks, ‘Hannay’s Lemon Drop’ produces a cloud of cheerful, single lemon-yellow daisies, each petal neatly tipped in white, above finely divided, dark-green foliage. The wiry stems are surprisingly strong and carry the flowers from late summer well into autumn, making this an excellent plant for the prairie or naturalistic border.

It was introduced by Hannay’s Nursery of Bath, where this distinctive form became established in cultivation. It is also known under the synonym Bidens heterophylla ‘Hannay’s Lemon Drop’. The RHS lists it as a short-lived perennial, reaching around 1m, and recommends full sun and a moist but well-drained soil. (RHS⁠)

A wonderfully useful late-season plant: airy enough to mingle with other perennials, floriferous enough to make its presence known, and considerably more interesting than most plants carrying the word ‘beggarticks’ in their name.
