Begonia x 'Torsa'

Hardy Begonia Begoniaceae

A magnificent hardy begonia for anyone who thinks ordinary begonia leaves are simply too small. ‘Torsa’ is a natural hybrid between Begonia grandis subsp. evansiana and an unidentified Bhutanese/Himalayan species, combining the former’s hardiness with enormous, handsome foliage from its Himalayan parent. Leaves can reach around 45cm, with striking red-veining beneath, while clusters of delicate pale-pink flowers appear in late summer and autumn. Best grown in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial or dappled shade, sheltered from strong sun and wind. It is deciduous and surprisingly hardy, with H4 reported in the UK.
