Begonia dregei var. partita
Maple Leaved Begonia Begoniaceae
A begonia with a rather serious case of leaf envy — why have one leaf shape when you can have several? Begonia dregei var. partita is a fascinating South African species, prized for its deeply divided, almost star-shaped foliage and delicate white flowers, which appear over a long season. Unlike the showy tuberous begonias, this is a much more understated plant, making its intricate foliage the real attraction. It is particularly good in a pot, conservatory or sheltered shady position, and can be overwintered under cover in colder parts of Britain. A small plant with foliage that clearly thinks it has somewhere important to be.
