Allium schoenoprasum ‘Profusion'
Chives Amaryllidaceae
Some chives are content to provide a few leaves; ‘Profusion’ clearly has other ideas. This superb culinary form produces masses of fine, tender, richly flavoured leaves, making it an especially useful choice for regular harvesting in the kitchen garden. The mild onion flavour is perfect for salads, soups, sauces, omelettes and, naturally, anything involving potatoes. It is also sterile, so rather than exhausting itself producing seed, it continues making fresh foliage, while its edible flowers remain attractive for considerably longer than those of ordinary chives. Vigorous, productive and delicious, this is a chive bred for the cook rather than the flower arranger.
