Why grow an onion that gives up after one season when you can have one that simply refuses to retire? ‘Perutile’ is the aptly named Everlasting Onion, a hardy perennial producing clumps of mild, spring-onion-like leaves and small bulbs that can be harvested throughout the year. The leaves and bulbs are both edible, excellent raw or cooked, and particularly useful in the kitchen when conventional onions are having an off day. Divide established clumps to propagate and harvest as required. A wonderfully useful plant for the edible garden, with enough personality to earn its place among the ornamentals. Basically, an onion with a pension plan.
